 Leadership Role

Chair

  • Principle contact between the chapter and the public, the members and ASM Headquarters
  • Creates a plan of operation with other officers that is presented at the first meeting of the Executive Committee for approval or modification
  • Delegates committee responsibilities and make committee appointments
  • Monitors the progress of the officers and committees in fulfilling their projects
  • Presides at All regular meetings and executive meetings of the chapter and ensures that the meeting schedule is followed
  • Provides supporting assistance in pursuing overall society objectives
  • Ensures that the chapter has complied with all "Chapter in Good Standing" requirements and coordinates the Chapter Quality and Recognition Program
  • Ensures that the chapter will be represented at Leadership Days at least every other year

Vice Chair

  • Leads the chapter in the absence of the Chair
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of all major committees
  • Directs the major chapter activity of the year
  • Serves as chair of the chapter’s Program Committee

Secretary

  • Maintains all chapter records
  • Keeps minutes for all chapter Executive Committee meetings
  • Acts as an official correspondent for the chapter
  • Fulfills all reporting requirements including monthly meeting and annual reports
  • Submits information to society headquarters to highlight chapter activities

Note: Larger chapters might consider hiring a paid clerical, secretarial or bookkeeping employee to handle the responsibilities of this position.

Treasurer

  • Receives and deposits all funds paid into the chapter
  • Disburses funds as authorized by the Executive Committee
  • Handles chapter reserves in the form of savings or checking accounts in the banks, stocks, bonds or other securities
  • Prepares financial reports for monthly Executive Committee meetings
  • Prepares annual financial reports for chapter records
  • Submits financial information for annual report
