Organizing a Student Camp | Organizing a Teacher Camp

Are you interested in organizing or helping set up a Materials Camp for teachers or students in your area?

It’s not that hard.Well, OK, it is work. But the rewards are tremendous!

Feedback from students, teachers, volunteers and organizers has been overwhelming. From just a few in 2000, more than 1,200 students and teachers participated in 2007.

For students, the Camps are turning on a new generation to the importance of materials science in their lives. Plus, they’re getting introduced to both academic and career paths at prime times in their lives.

For teachers, the Camps provide a great way to learn how to teach hands-on science and re-energize their classrooms and labs.

All the help you need from ASM.

We’ll provide you a step-by-step outline of everything you need, from developing a timeline to picking a curriculum to selecting a faculty.

The ASM Materials Education Foundation takes care of most costs. Since 2000, more than $1,000,000 has been donated to support these camps.

In 2007, there were three week-long student Residential Camps and 15 week-long Commuter Camps, along with six mini-camps (one or two days).

There were also three week-long teacher Residential Camps and twelve week-long Commuter Camps, along with one mini-camp.

Camps are held throughout the United States and Canada, as well as two in India!

But the success of each camp hinges on the quality of the organizers and volunteers who donate their time to bring each camp from paper to reality.

Could this be you?

One word of caution: we do not recommend organizing a camp for teachers and students. They are separate camps with different objectives.

Choose one or the other. And we’ll help you make it one of the best educational experiences your group has ever had!
