Networking
Some members build personal networks for problem-solving purposes; others, for growing their list of business acquaintances and sales contacts. Either way, you’ll meet the people you need to know in your materials community.
Professional Advancement
These days, getting ahead depends as much on your communication and organizational skills as it does on your technical abilities. Chapter committees--such as technical programming, membership recruitment, education seminars and publicity—can help you gain practical management experience that will help you rise in your organization.
Financial Support
Every year, active professional chapters receive a check from ASM in the form of a rebate on all dues paid by the chapter’s individual active members, as well as rebates for chapter sustaining members, which varies based on fees set by each chapter. The rebate amount will vary depending on member type. This money enables the chapter to improve service development for members and enhances the quality of technical programs and social events.
Leadership Development
From chapter officers to committee chairs, chapters provide a wide variety of roles that can help you develop and improve your leadership skills. In addition, ASM brings new chapter officers together every year during Leadership Days in August. This educational and networking event, held at ASM’s Headquarters in Materials Park, helps new officers assume their new duties by providing proven techniques for the smooth management of their chapters.
ASM Updates
Being involved in a professional chapter means staying up to date on society activities, such as conferences, workshops and publications, which keeps you informed of industry developments and trends.
Awards and Recognition
Chapters can achieve special honors through Chapters of Excellence Awards, which are recognized at the ASM Annual Meeting and in Advanced Materials & Processes magazine.
