The ASM International Chapter Council is responsible for chapter policy and governance issues. The Council shall review the quality level of chapters, act as primary liaison between the chapters and Materials Park, and review funding proposals related to these activities.

The Chapter Council is made up of 16 members. Each appointment shall be made for a term of not more than three (3) years except for the Chair who shall be appointed for one (1) year. In order to provide a rotating membership, approximately one-third of the members of the Council shall be appointed each year. Reappointments may be made when desirable. The size of the Council shall be determined from time to time by the Board.

The Chapter Council shall meet as frequently as is necessary, and in any event, at least once each year. The Council may be assigned additional duties at the discretion of the Board. The Council shall issue minutes of each of its meetings and the Chair shall submit an annual report and be responsive to the Society’s strategic plan.

Council Member Expectations:

- actively participate in all Council Meetings as possible.
- serve as a liaison for their assigned Regional District.
- provide input and participate in determining Chapter governance.
- actively work to improve Council operation.
- actively support the Board of Trustees strategic priorities.
- work to achieve annual Council objectives.
- provide input and determine issues of chapter dissolution and rejuvenation.
- assist with annual Chapter Leadership Days program.
- communicate Council activities to Chapters and Chapters’ leadership.
