Through fun camps, money for college, and leadership training, the ASM Education Foundation supports students pursuing a career in materials, science and engineering.

  Students Materials Camps

Students Camp is intense. There’s a lot to learn. There’s even more to do. But most of all, it is fun! And, it’s FREE.

In-coming high school juniors and seniors with proven aptitudes in science and math are encouraged to seek additional information.

Nowhere else can these students get real-world, hands-on experience in understanding the science of materials.

  Scholarships

National Merit Scholarships
The ASM Materials Education Foundation currently sponsors $1,000 scholarships for students who had indicated an interest in materials science and engineering as National Merit Semi-Finalists in high school. One new student is sponsored each year.

  Undergraduate Scholarship Program

Since 1953, the ASM Materials Education Foundation and leading ASM Chapters nationwide have awarded scholarships totaling over $1 million. Currently 37 scholarships are awarded annually through the ASM International Foundation, which is supported by member contributions and other gifts.

Contests

ASM International Graduate Student Paper Contest
The award recognizes the best graduate student technical paper in the field of materials science or engineering submitted during the year.

ASM International Student Paper Contest
The award recognizes the best student technical paper in the field of materials science or engineering submitted during the year.

HTS/Bodycote Best Paper in Heat Treating Contest
The ASM Heat Treating Society established the Best Paper in Heat Treating Award in 1997 to recognize a paper that represents advancement in heat treating technology, or promotes heat treating in some substantial way or represents a clear advancement in managing the business of heat treating.

International Metallographic Contest
Established by the International Metallographic Society, the primary goal of the contest is to advance the science of microstructural analysis by providing an opportunity for microstructural analysts to display their work and communicate significant scientific information. There are eleven different classes of competition covering all fields of optical and electron microscopy. In Classes 1 through 8 multiple images and captions are expected to be used to describe how metallography was used to help solve a problem or to describe a unique or unusual technique. Classes 9, 10 and 11 are for artistic pictures. The contest is open to all, including non-members.

Undergraduate Design Competition
Based on submission of design-focused project reports describing work performed as part of the capstone course or a team project performed by undergraduate engineering students at any level. Recognizing the diversity of design curricula in materials and related engineering departments, a broad definition of "design" is considered for this competition.
